Everything you have been told about eating your whole life has been a lie. Fat does NOT make you fat! And Banting proves it. Banting is not just a diet but a lifestyle that can easily be maintained by putting more thought into what we are actually putting into our bodies. Our not so active lifestyles and our carbs for fuel mindsets have not done us any good. But Banting is here to save us.
Banting is a Low Carbs, Medium Protein and High Fat Diet. That means no sugar, added or otherwise including *fruit.
*Small amounts of fruit is allowed from time to time but it all depend on what stage of banting you are in.
How does Banting Work?
By restricting your Carbohydrate intake, cutting out sugar and upping your fat intake your body goes into a state of Ketosis. While in ketosis your body will “switch energy sources” and instead of using Cabs as energy your body will use your fat reserve instead. *To do this you must eat under 50g of carbs a day and without starving yourself only eat when you are hungry. Your plate should be made up of Low Carbs, Medium Protein and High Fat Food. With a palm size portion of meat and loads of Green List vegetables. You cannot consume any of the foods on the Red List
* Never starve yourself. As your body adjusts it will go through stages of carbs and sugar cravings this can last for 2 weeks. This feeling should not be confused for hunger, make sure to eat only greenlist during this time and plenty of fats.
Who Can Start Banting?
Anyone can start Banting! If you are/have:
- Overweight or Obese
- Type 2 Diabetes
- High Blood Pressure
Even if you are just an average person with no weight or health problems you can start banting. Banting has many health benefits:
- Less Cravings! Eating high fat keeps you satisfied longer and when you do feel like a snack there’s a wide variety of low carb snack you can enjoy, you also eat way fewer calories eating low carb.
- You lose weight! Since your body is now using Fat as an energy source it will burn off any extra weight you might be carrying around.
- It increases your good cholesterol also known as High Density Lipoprotein (HDL)
- It reduces your blood sugar levels and insulin levels

Banting to maintain instead of losing.
Banting is not only for those who want to lose weight but works wonders if you want to maintain your weight and eat clean. Unlike almost all diets, banting encourages you to eat fat… yes you can enjoy that nice piece of crispy chicken skin , pork crackling and lamb chops!
When banting to lose weight stick to the green list as mentioned and you can lose up to 2kg a month. When you want to maintain your weight you can use the green and orange list in combination and slowly increase the amount of carbs you are eating from 50 to where you are maintaining your weight. For instance from 50 to 75 for 2-3 months and see if you lose, gain or maintain.
Can i cheat or have off days?
No. There are no cheat days or off day on banting. When you consume more carbs than needed you will no longer be in ketosis. That means that you will no longer be losing weight. When you cheat you can expect to experience the following symptoms, cramping, bloating, nausea, headaches and migraines for several days.
Will i keep the weight off?
Its is said that in order to lose weight long term and to successfully keep the weight off you should maintain your goal weight for at least a year. As your body heals so does your mind as well as your need to eat the wrong things.
Please remember that Rome was not built in a day and that hopping on and off the scale is not doing you any good. Be patient, follow the Banting guidelines and watch the magic happen. Once your weight loss starts weigh yourself in the mornings after using the bathroom and having breakfast.
